Kanoon Portal is an initiative by AI for Justice. We aim to improve access to justice in Nepal and empower not just legal professionals but all people from all kinds of backgrounds through the use of AI.

We plan to make available a large legal data archive which will be structured and semantically searchable as our pilot service; along with the said archive, we are conducting active research on using language models such as Llama for legal text summarization, document question answering and an agentic legal chat application.

While most applications using language models typically work with English and other high-resource languages, we aim to achieve impactful results with languages like Nepali and other regional and local languages, which greatly improves accessibility.
